The Silver Seekers Metal Detecting Club is a very unique club, as we only meet at the organized hunts all over the country.  We do not have a centralized meeting place, or time.

The Silver Seekers Metal Detecting Club was started in Jill & Carl McFeeders’ kitchen in December of 1992.  There were 11 members present from the surrounding area of Dover , OH .   At that meeting, it was decided that we would meet at metal detecting organized hunts around the country.  It was decided also, that we would not have meetings in the months of December, January and February.  At the 2nd meeting, Ed Burke of Pa; Jim Beardsley of WVA, Chuck & Sophie Froelich of MI and Joanne and Terry Boerckel of IL asked if they could join our club.  That started members joining from all over the country.

In 1993 our annual thank you rib dinner was initiated at Hayes Hunt and the “Silver Seeker Speaker” newsletter was born.

In 1994 we co-sponsored a day at Treasure Week with Randy Gatchel being the hunt master.

In April of 1995 our Find of the Month contest was started.  In 1995 our Gold Coin Raffle was started.  In April the Club cleaned the fields at Whispering Hills, as Treasure Week went there in 1995.  We dug up approximately 20 lbs of trash.

In 1997 Silver Seekers started sponsoring a day at Treasure Week.

In 1998 we sold Silver Seeker cookbooks.  We started saving our foreign coins for theTexas Lions Club’s Crippled Children’s Camp in Texas .  They have taught the children how to metal detect and they love to find coins.  They do not want them to have clad coins, as they would put them into pop and candy machines, but the foreign coins, they cannot.  We set up a display of finds at the FMDAC convention in Wildwood, NJ.  It was a very impressive display.  We received 2nd place and won $50.00.

In 1999, we started the Chinese Auction at TW, which is a big money maker for our club.

2000 saw our first Silver Seeker Cruise take off and our new Silver Seeker medallions were made.  We had our first club hunt at Hayes after their hunt was over.  Hurricane Gordon tried to take over the FMDAC hunt in Clearwater FL , but the Silver Seekers still planted the beach.

In 2001 Duane Biller was made Convention Coordinator of the FMDAC convention in Laughlin , NV .  Once again, the Silver Seekers were there in full force, planting and manning the registration table, etc.

2002 saw some of our members running for National Office for the FMDAC.  Also the National Convention was at Cedar Point, Sandusky , Ohio and the Silver Seekers was the host club.  They had a display table set up with finds from the members.  Also the members are the ones that did most of the planting, etc.

2003 saw the new officers of the FMDAC take over.  Most of them are Silver Seekers.

In 2004 we began a website and Anita Major has taken over as Webmaster.

This club continues to grow and as of December, 2004, we had over  300  members and 8 youth members from 29  states and 2 provinces of Canada .  We also are the largest club in the FMDAC.

Since the first meeting Carl has been president and Jill Sec/Treas.  There have been 3 Vice Presidents with Duane Biller being the VP for the last 6 years.
